A three-year-old died after being struck by a vehicle in a Chula Vista strip mall parking lot on May 28th. 

Details as to how the fatal crash occurred have not yet been provided, but the incident took place in Chula Vista’s Eastlake neighborhood at around 6:20 PM. The parking lot of the strip mall is off Showroom Place and Fenton Street, north of Otay Lakes Road according to Chula Vista police. 

About a dozen businesses are said to be situated near the parking lot in which the incident took place, including an indoor children’s play center, a go-kart track, and several eateries.  A 911 caller told police that the child had been struck by a vehicle and medical aid was provided by officers when they arrived at the scene. 

The child was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital located in San Diego, where the child died. The victim’s gender has not yet been identified. 

The driver, 36, involved in the incident remained at the scene and was not believed to be intoxicated or under the influence. The Police Department’s traffic bureau was investigating the crash and reported that only one vehicle was involved and the cause of the crash has not yet been reported.

A North Highlands female motorist involved in a two-vehicle head-on crash near Wheatland died May 27th. 

The crash occurred before 8 AM in Yuba County according to the Sutter-Yuba office California Highway Patrol, near the entrance of the Toyota Amphitheater. A Mazda 6 sedan and a Dodge Ram 3500 were the two vehicles involved in the collision on Forty Mile Road near Hoffman Plumas Road. 

In an initial report by the Sacramento Bee, the woman driving the Mazda was heading northbound when the crash occurred after making an “unsafe turning movement to the left” in the southbound lane. An 88-year-old man from Brownsville, Jack Cogburn, driving the pickup truck, suffered a broken leg.

The involvement of alcohol or drugs as factors in the collision is currently unknown according to authorities.

A two-car collision near Clovis Community College in Fresno County cost one woman her life and injured her two children.

On Monday, May 29 at roughly 4:30 pm, a red Mercedes was traveling eastbound on International Avenue near Minnewawa east of Clovis Community College. The Mercedes was traveling at a high rate of speed when it approached a stop sign and at that moment a black Honda Sedan was going northbound on Minnewawa. 

As it entered the intersection, the Mercedes appeared to blow through the stop sign, striking the Honda on the driver’s side, pushing both vehicles into an open field. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) the 45-year-old female driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two children who were passengers in the vehicle were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. 

The children, aged 8 and 10, did not have their names released, nor was the mother’s name released. The woman driving the Mercedes suffered only minor injuries. The CHP reported that neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected in the crash.

Authorities did arrest the woman who had been driving the Mercedes on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter. ABC 30 listed the name of the Mercedes driver as Wallowa Bates, a 22-year-old seen driving twice the posted speed limit. She posted bond and was out of jail by Monday evening.

A two-car collision on the 805 Freeway in Chula Vista, CA on Saturday night, May 29, led to the death of a 42-year-old woman from Oklahoma. 

According to California Highway Patrol, at approximately 10:20 pm, a Chevrolet SUV was being driven by a 38-year-old woman from Oklahoma going southbound on the 805. It veered and crashed into a Toyota pickup truck in the right lane just north of Telegraph Canyon Rd.

Both vehicles flipped as a result of the crash, and the passenger in the Chevy, a 42-year-old from Chickasha, OK, was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene according to CHP.

While there was no word on injuries to the Chevy SUV’s driver, the driver of the Toyota, an 18-year-old woman, was not injured according to authorities. All four lanes of the southbound 805 Freeway were closed Saturday night due to the collision.

The specifics are not currently known, although an investigation is under way. Several fatal car crashes have occurred on the 805 recently, specifically at Telegraph Canyon Road. In April of this year, a 30-year-old man was riding a 2001 Kawasaki motorcycle when he slammed into the back of a white tow truck that was stopped in the center divider.
