A pickup truck crash in Hondo, New Mexico took one person’s life and seriously injured two others on Tuesday, May 23. The accident occurred at 10:50 PM when a pickup truck and a commercial motor vehicle collided on Highway 70 east of Hondo.

The truck driver was Manuel Noriega from Riverside, NM who was pulling out of a driveway when the commercial motor vehicle hit the driver’s side. Noriega was pronounced dead on the scene by the Office of Medical Investigator as a result of this crash. The man and woman who were in the CMV were flown to a nearby hospital, and their condition has not yet been released. Noriega was driving a 2008 Ford pickup and was reversing out of his driveway. The vehicle that hit him was a 2014 Peterbilt CMV. 

So far, investigators do not consider alcohol as a factor in this crash, but New Mexico State Police continue to investigate. KRQE first reported the crash. A woman in her 70s was killed on Friday, May 26, when a bag of cement crashed through the windshield of an SUV she was a passenger in.

The fatal wreck occurred at the intersection of Route 52 and the 805 Freeway. The driver of a Chevrolet stake-bed truck lost control as he was exiting from the southbound 805 onto SR-52, and the pickup truck toppled and dumped its load, part of which fell off the connector. This is according to California Highway Patrol Affairs Officer Samuel Mendoza.

At least one bag of cement crashed through the windshield of the Mercedes-Benz SUV which was traveling eastbound, killing the woman at the scene. The woman’s name was not immediately available.

The drivers of both vehicles were uninjured, and the driver of the pickup truck told CHP officers that his vehicle overturned after the load in the flatbed shifted in its cargo bed on the curving roadway. Officers do not believe alcohol was involved in the crash.

The pickup truck was on an overpass, and the cement bags fell down several dozen feet when they hit the SUV. The overturned pickup truck was quite large, and the force at which the cement bags were thrown was likely incredible.

According to the Times of San Diego, both the 805 Freeway and Route 52 were closed for several hours after the crash took place.

A 40 year old woman was killed in Lemon Grove by a truck in a hit and run accident on Thursday, May 24 at 12:30 a.m.

A bystander called 9-1-1 shortly after the accident occurred near Broadway and Harris Street. A witness said the white truck might have been a Ford F-150, but could not confirm. After the collision with the woman, the truck kept driving according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Power. When paramedics arrived, they attempted life-saving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A description of the truck driver was also not available according to ABC. Lemon Grove traffic deputies handling the investigation were offering a $1,000 reward for any details that could lead to the suspect.

Lemon Grove, located in East County San Diego, has a small population, roughly 27,600 people. It is located near Highway 94 and Highway 125, making it a hot spot for various types of truck accidents, including hit and runs.
