Crashed motorcycle on ground following car accident

A crash occurred just north of Lomas, New Mexico near San Mateo Boulevard on Monday June 5th in which a motorcyclist was killed.

Officers responded to the incident at around 1:40 PM in Mountain Road and San Mateo Boulevard. Authorities arrived and found a man thrown from his motorcycle from the crash; he later died at the scene.

Northbound San Mateo is now closed as police investigate the crash, at the moment neither alcohol nor drugs have been reported as factors of the collision. An almost identical accident occurred just two months ago, in almost the exact same location – San Mateo Blvd. and Lomas Blvd.

“Motorcycle collisions are dangerous and, as in this instance, can be deadly,” said motorcycle accident attorney Brian S. Colón. “Intersections up and down on San Mateo are amongst the deadliest in Albuquerque. This deadly collision on Lomas is yet another tragic incident on Albuquerque’s busy roads.  Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the person who lost their life, and we hope officials look to make high traffic intersections safer.”

Lomas and San Mateo Fatal Accidents

Lomas New Mexico has recently seen an increase and concerning surge in fatal motorcycle and car accidents taking place within the community. They are now grappling with a road safety crisis that demands urgent attention. There is an alarming rise in tragic incidents that’s left both residents and authorities concerned, ultimately prompting closer examinations of leading factors that contribute to accidents as well as the necessary steps to prevent further loss of life.

There are several factors that contribute to fatal accidents including:

  • Increased Traffic and Congestion: One of the primary contributors to the fatal car accidents in Lomas and San Mateo is the substantial increase in traffic and congestion in recent years. As these towns have experienced rapid population growth and urbanization, their road infrastructure has struggled to keep up with the rising demand. Insufficient roads and inadequate traffic management have led to congestion, creating a breeding ground for accidents.
  • Distracted Driving Epidemic: The constant use of smartphones and other electronic devices has given rise to a distracted driving epidemic across the country, and Lomas is no exception. The temptation to check messages, browse social media, or engage in other distracting activities while behind the wheel poses a severe threat to road safety. Combating this issue requires several strategic approaches, including stricter legislation, public awareness campaigns, and improved enforcement.
  • Reckless Driving and Speeding: Reckless driving behaviors, including speeding, remain a significant cause of fatal accidents in Lomas. Many drivers fail to adhere to speed limits, ignoring the potential consequences of their actions. To address this issue, law enforcement agencies must enhance their efforts to enforce traffic regulations, while also implementing traffic calming measures such as speed bumps and increased signage to deter speeding.
  • Inadequate Infrastructure and Road Design: The road infrastructure in Lomas often falls short in terms of safety standards and design. Poorly maintained roads, inadequate lighting, and lack of signage contribute to an increased risk of accidents, especially during nighttime or complicated weather conditions. Investing in infrastructure improvements and road maintenance projects is crucial to ensuring safer driving conditions for all residents.

The surge in fatal car accidents in Lomas demands immediate action and a comprehensive approach to road safety. Addressing the contributing factors, such as increased traffic congestion, distracted driving, reckless behavior, and inadequate infrastructure, requires the combined efforts of local authorities, law enforcement agencies, community organizations, and residents. By investing in infrastructure improvements, enforcing traffic regulations, and fostering education and awareness, these communities can work together to prevent further loss of life and create safer road environments for everyone.

“The legal complexities involved in fatal motorcycle accidents such as the incident that occurred at Lomas and San Mateo require the experience of a seasoned attorney that can help victims or the families of victims receive the assistance needed to navigate the legal system,” added Mr. Colón. “My hope is that the family of the lost loved one receives the justice owed to them and they get trusted legal counsel that makes their grieving process easier.”

Galt Semi-Truck Collision Kills One

Semi trailer driving along highway

A collision between a semi-truck and a sedan on Highway 99 killed one person in Galt, CA on Saturday, June 3.

The semi-truck crash occurred on C Street when a 2006 Infiniti sedan drove over the over-cross onto Highway 99, directly in front of the semi-truck which was unable to stop. The truck then drove into the Sedan, killing the driver.

Semi trailer traveling along highway

The semi-truck overturned and came to a rest on the west shoulder of the 99.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento Division, workers had to divert southbound traffic to the Central Galt exit. Drivers in Galt had to travel through the city on Frontage Road to get back on to Highway 99 at Fairway.

KCRA reported that the sedan driver was the only confirmed death, there may have been others. Lt. John Rocha of the Galt police said the driver of the truck was able to go home. It took authorities hours before they could eventually tow the large semi-truck away with a tow truck at 10:30 PM.

Authorities are still investigating the crash, and it was unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision. Several lanes had to be closed due to a diesel gas spill.

“The nature of this crash is quite odd, hopefully an investigation will uncover exactly why the sedan went onto the highway,” said Galt truck accident attorney Gerald Singleton. “The family of the individual who died had their lives changed forever, and we hope they are able to cope with this awful loss.”

Those who have been injured in Galt truck accidents can contact Singleton Schreiber at 916-248-8478 or by emailing info@singletonschreiber.com.

Fatal Galt Semi-Truck Crash

Galt is a city with a unique location. Highway 99 goes right through the middle of the city, and it’s roughly halfway between Sacramento and Stockton. Both of those cities are much larger, and the entirety of Highway 99 is a major passageway for large trucks. These trucks deliver farming equipment, crops, livestock and much more.

Galt, just south of Elk Grove and just north of Collierville, is actually located within Sacramento County. The population has grown in the last 15 years as housing prices in Sacramento have steadily increased.

Between the location right near Highway 99 and the increased truck traffic, it has become a hot bed for all kinds of truck accidents, including semi-truck collisions. A semi-truck that is hooked up to an empty trailer weighs roughly 35,000 pounds. When a trailer is full, it can weigh up to 80,000 pounds. Even if not connected to a trailer at all, it can still weigh up to 25,000 pounds.

It’s easy to see why any semi-truck crash would be fatal for everyone involved. In this case, the truck overturned, but the driver was not killed. This is almost miraculous.

This truck accident is one of a recent trend of truck collisions in and around Galt. Just two weeks ago, two teenagers were ejected as a pickup truck flipped over in Galt near 110th Avenue.

Highway 99 has also seen an increase in truck accidents. In Merced, a big rig crash spilled liquid fertilizer all over the roadway, stopping traffic for miles. A pedestrian was hit by a semi-truck on Highway 99 a month ago. In March, a driver was killed after they collided with a big rig trailer on Highway 99 near Yuba City.

The list goes on, and with hundreds of semi-trucks driving this area on a daily basis, the potential for serious truck accidents is extremely high.

California Highway Patrol actually has a web page dedicated to these accidents, and the list is extensive, because every day the lives and health of drivers is put at risk. If a car makes a bad decision, if a truck driver falls asleep or is distracted, or if the weather is poor – disaster soon follows.

“The loss of life is simply horrific,” Mr. Singleton added. “However, it actually could have been worse. The truck driver, and the surviving family members of the person who was killed need to contact a qualified Galt personal injury attorney. They are likely eligible for compensation, and deserve prompt justice.”

Fatal Mira Loma Multi-Vehicle Car Accidents

Mira Loma has recently experienced a surge in multi-car crashes. These incidents have raised concerns among residents, local authorities, and the community as a whole. Over the past few years, Mira Loma has witnessed an escalation in multi-car crashes, characterized by accidents involving three or more vehicles. These incidents often result in severe injuries, property damage, and occasionally, tragic loss of life. The impact of these crashes extends beyond those directly involved, affecting families, friends, and the wider community.

Several factors contribute to the occurrence of multi-car crashes in Mira Loma.

One primary reason is the increasing population and traffic congestion in the area. As more residents and businesses call Mira Loma home, the roads have become busier, amplifying the risk of collisions. Inadequate infrastructure, including outdated road designs, insufficient signage, and limited road maintenance, can further exacerbate the problem.

Distracted driving also plays a significant role in multi-car crashes. The use of smartphones and other electronic devices has led to a rise in driver distractions, such as texting, social media, or engaging in conversations while actively driving. These distractions divert attention from the road, increase reaction times, and contribute to a higher likelihood of multi-car collisions.

Another contributing factor is aggressive driving behavior. Speeding, tailgating, improper lane changes, and running red lights are prevalent examples of aggressive driving actions that can trigger chain reactions on the road. When one driver acts recklessly, it can set off a sequence of events involving multiple vehicles, leading to devastating consequences.

Addressing the issue of multi-car crashes requires a strategic approach involving cooperation among local authorities, law enforcement agencies, and the community. Some key strategies to consider include:

  1. Enhanced Traffic Enforcement: Local law enforcement agencies should increase their presence on the roads, enforcing traffic laws and penalties for distracted driving, speeding, and other dangerous behaviors. Strict enforcement acts as a deterrent and encourages responsible driving.
  2. Infrastructure Improvements: Collaborating with transportation authorities to conduct thorough assessments of the road infrastructure in Mira Loma can identify areas that require improvement. This includes optimizing road designs, installing proper signage, and implementing traffic calming measures to reduce the risk of multi-car crashes.
  3. Technological Advancements: Encouraging the use of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and promoting the development of autonomous vehicle technology can potentially reduce the occurrence of multi-car crashes. These technologies can enhance driver awareness, reduce human errors, and prevent collisions.

The surge in multi-car crashes in Mira Loma is a cause for concern and requires immediate action. By addressing its contributing factors these devastating incidents can possibly be reduced. It is crucial for local authorities, residents, and community leaders to come together and prioritize road safety to protect the lives and well-being of everyone in Mira Loma.

“Any multi-car crash will be difficult to investigate, and with a motorcycle involved as well, the difficulty is even higher,” said Mr. Singleton. “Our thoughts are with the injured parties and the family of the deceased. We also hope they secure highly skilled personal injury attorneys who can help them with the investigation, help them with the civil justice process and get them the justice they need and deserve.”

Suspected Drunk Driver from Santa Fe Kills Man on I-25

Emergency response assisting at scene of accident

According to New Mexico State Police, a Santa Fe man is facing various criminal charges after he allegedly struck and killed a 66-year-old man while driving under the influence.

Jonathan Matthew Lujan, a 22-year-old Santa Fe man, was charged with multiple criminal offenses, including DWI homicide by vehicle; two counts of great bodily harm by vehicle while under the influence; driving while under the influence of liquor or drugs; reckless driving; having no insurance; driving with a revoked license; and possession of an open container.

Emergency response assisting at scene of accident

Officers responded to the fatal crash Friday night on the northbound I-25 just north of Paseo Del Norte Blvd which is north of Albuquerque at roughly 10 pm. Lujan was found by police while kneeling nearby his white 2023 Jeep SUV.

He was complaining about injuries to his whole body according to a criminal complaint filed Saturday in Bernailillo County Metropolitan Court. His Jeep had rear-ended a 2003 Toyota Pickup being driven by Hector Beltran, also of Santa Fe. Mr. Beltran was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This is outrageous, a horrible criminal act,” said Santa Fe car accident attorney Brian S. Colón. “The family of Mr. Beltran deserves our sympathy, our support and for justice to happen quickly.”

If you or someone you love has been injured in a Santa Fe car accident, call the attorneys at Singleton Schreiber at 505-605-2076, or email them at info@singletonschreiber.com

Santa Fe Drunk Driving Fatality

This DUI collision may not have been intended, but it was no accident. Lujan chose to drink, chose to drive, and chose to put everyone around him in horrible danger. Mr. Beltran had two passengers in his pickup truck, a 39-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl.

Both of the passengers suffered various injuries, including broken bones, and were transported to Albuquerque’s University of New Mexico Hospital.

When officers spoke with Lujan after the crash, they immediately recognized the tell-tale signs of drunk driving. He had bloodshot, watery eyes and had an “overwhelming” smell of alcohol on his breath. Lujan allegedly denied drinking before he drove.

However, officers found an open can of alcohol in his SUV’s center console. A standardized field sobriety test was not performed on Lujan at the crash site due to his needing medical attention. He did however participate in a blood draw after police obtained a warrant for his blood.

Lujan was first brought to an area hospital but was then booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque at about 9 am. According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, both alcohol and the rate of speed Lujan was traveling were contributing factors in the crash.

The crash is still being investigated by state police.

There has been a rash of drunk driving accidents in Santa Fe, many of which led to fatal or near-fatal accidents. In 2020, a suspected drunk driving caused a crash that injured three people. In 2019, a driver was so drunk he crashed through a fence and into law enforcement property.

According to some reports, a person is killed or injured by a drunk driver every 15 minutes. That means four people an hour, 96 people a day, and more than 35,000 people suffer in some way due to a drunk driver’s behavior.

Santa Fe, a relatively low-population area compared to other regions, averages more than 100 alcohol-involved crashes every year. This makes it one of the more dangerous areas in the United States in terms of drunk driving or driving under the influence. While much of the United States have gone down in DUI-related deaths and injuries, New Mexico in general has slowly crept up.

“The next step for the survivors of the crash is to seek proper medical care,” Mr. Colón added. “However, as soon as they are able, they must contact a qualified Santa Fe car accident attorney. This was clearly a wrongful death situation, and Mr. Lujan must be held accountable by the courts for his actions. In addition to criminal proceedings, there is a civil process, and the survivors are absolutely eligible for compensation for their injuries.”

According to the San Diego Police Department both drivers stopped after the crash and cooperated with authorities. At the moment, neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the collision.

“Pedestrians that are struck, killed, or injured serve as harsh reminders to the public that roadways require as much diligence and safe driving practices as possible at all times,” said Jerry Singleton personal injury attorney at Singleton Schreiber. “The lives of many are at risk every day whether they are behind the wheel or commuting by foot. It is all of our responsibility to look out for one another. My thoughts are with the family of the deceased victim.”

Fairmount Park Community Fatal Pedestrian Crashes

Recent incidents of pedestrian crashes in Fairmount Park community have demonstrated the need for immediate attention and proactive measures to ensure the well-being of residents and visitors. The community is facing a growing concern regarding pedestrian safety. Fairmount Park Community, located in an active city, attracts a significant number of pedestrians due to its scenic trails, sites, and vibrant neighborhoods. Unfortunately, the increased foot traffic has led to a surge in pedestrian-related accidents, causing injuries as well as fatalities. These incidents not only disrupt the lives of individuals and families but also raise concerns about the community’s overall safety.

Several factors contribute to the alarming number of pedestrian crashes in Fairmount Park Community. Some of the key causes include:

  1. Insufficient Infrastructure: Inadequate pedestrian infrastructure, such as poorly designed crosswalks, lack of sidewalks, or inadequate lighting, poses significant risks to pedestrians. These deficiencies create hazardous conditions that increase the likelihood of accidents.
  2. Distracted Driving and Walking: With the rise of smartphones and other electronic devices, both drivers and pedestrians are increasingly distracted while on the road. Distractions, such as texting, talking on the phone, or engaging with social media, divert attention away from the surroundings, leading to accidents.
  3. Speeding and Reckless Driving: Excessive speeding and reckless driving habits contribute to a significant number of pedestrian crashes. Vehicles traveling at high speeds have reduced reaction times, making it harder for drivers to avoid collisions, especially in densely populated areas.
  4. Lack of Pedestrian Education: A lack of awareness and education among pedestrians regarding road safety measures can also contribute to accidents. Many pedestrians may not be aware of the proper way to cross streets or may underestimate the risks associated with jaywalking or crossing against traffic signals.

By addressing the causes of pedestrian crashes and implementing effective solutions, the community can create a safer environment for everyone on the roadways or public spaces. It is through collaborative efforts, improved infrastructure, and increased awareness that Fairmount Park Community can protect its pedestrians, quality of life, and maintain its status as a welcoming area to visit or reside in.

Pedestrian crashes involve legal complexities that require careful examination and understanding. When a pedestrian is involved in an accident with a vehicle, there are several legal aspects that come into play. Some of the key legal complexities associated with pedestrian crashes are negligence, right of way, comparative negligence, insurance coverage, legal procedures, as well as settlements and litigation. Seeking legal advice from an experienced attorney specializing in personal injury law is crucial for understanding the specific legal implications of a pedestrian crash.

“Pedestrian crashes can often be complicated to understand, overwhelming, and traumatic to undergo if one is not familiar with the circumstances involved or have a legal understanding of the issue,” added Mr. Singleton. “There are serious injuries, fatalities, or lifelong damages that victims or families of victims are left to face, and my hope is that the family of the victim receive the justice that is owed to them in this unfortunate incident.”

Pala Fatal DUI Crashes

Pala unfortunately faces the issue of DUI (Driving Under the Influence) car accidents. These incidents not only pose a significant risk to public safety but also have devastating consequences for individuals and their families. DUI car accidents in Pala pose a significant threat to public safety and have devastating consequences for individuals and families involved.

DUI car accidents in San Diego County pose serious risks to both drivers and innocent victims:

  1. Impaired Judgment and Coordination: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs significantly impairs a driver’s judgment, coordination, and reaction time. This increases the likelihood of accidents and decreases the driver’s ability to safely navigate the road.
  2. Increased Severity of Accidents: DUI accidents often result in more severe injuries or fatalities due to the impaired driver’s reduced ability to respond to hazards or apply proper braking techniques. Innocent victims are particularly vulnerable to the devastating consequences of these accidents.
  3. Legal Consequences: DUI offenses in San Diego carry strict legal penalties, including fines, license suspension, mandatory alcohol education programs, and even imprisonment. Offenders face long-term repercussions on their personal and professional lives.

To combat the issue of DUI car accidents in San Diego County, it is essential to implement effective road safety measures:

  1. Sobriety Checkpoints: Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to conduct regular sobriety checkpoints at strategic locations in San Diego County. These checkpoints act as deterrents and help identify and apprehend drivers under the influence, removing them from the road.
  2. Stricter Law Enforcement: Work with local authorities to enforce DUI laws rigorously and ensure that offenders face appropriate legal consequences. Increased patrols, dedicated DUI enforcement teams, and swift legal action can send a strong message and discourage impaired driving.
  3. Ride-Sharing and Alternative Transportation Options: Encourage the use of ride-sharing services, public transportation, or designated drivers to provide safe transportation for individuals who have consumed alcohol or drugs. Promote the availability and convenience of these options to reduce the temptation to drive under the influence.

Navigating the legal complexities of being hit by a DUI driver requires a thorough understanding of personal injury laws, insurance regulations, criminal proceedings, and relevant statutes in one’s jurisdiction. When an accident occurs, there are many stressful factors in the aftermath for the drivers involved or their loved ones, consulting with skilled attorneys specializing in personal injury and wrongful death cases can provide the necessary guidance to protect the rights of those affected or involved in the crash and seek fair compensation for losses accumulated as a result of the incident.

“A DUI crash might seem straightforward, but there can be complex issues to navigate in litigation,” said Mr. Singleton. “While our hearts go out to the victims and the family of the deceased, we also hope they find a qualified personal injury attorney who can help walk them through the complexities of a case like this with multiple victims. The survivors and the family of the deceased are absolutely due compensation.”

Singleton Schreiber’s Pala car accident attorneys can be reached at (619) 771-3473 or by emailing info@singletonschreiber.com.
