In a report by KGET, Fanning was the driver of a 2014 Chevrolet when she was hit. Fanning’s vehicle came to a full stop in the second lane of Highway 99 with her vehicle lights turned off. Moments later, a 43-year-old woman driving a 2019 GMC around 65-70 miles per hour rear-ended the vehicle. The impact unfortunately caused both vehicles to veer off the roadway and onto the shoulder.

“Truck accidents are extremely dangerous and can leave any driver severely injured in their aftermath,” said Gerald Singleton, personal injury attorney at Singleton Schreiber. “Several people and vehicles were involved in this incident that should have never taken place, my thoughts are with the victims and loved ones of the deceased.”

Richmond Wrongful Death Motorcycle Accident

Richmond, California, located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, is a hub of activity with a vast network of roads that cater to a myriad of vehicles, including motorcycles and trucks. The mix of scenic byways, urban roads, and heavy transportation routes makes it a strategic location but also a vulnerable one when it comes to road traffic accidents. One of the most concerning types of accidents that frequently takes place is collisions between motorcycles and trucks.

When a motorcycle collides with a truck, the results can be disastrous given the vast difference in size, weight, and structure of the two vehicles. Motorcycles, being smaller and lighter, offer little to no protection to riders in the event of a crash. Trucks, on the other hand, are massive, heavy, and equipped with hard metal exteriors. When these two types of vehicles collide, it’s often the motorcyclist who bears the brunt of the impact.

Types of Injuries from Motorcycle-Truck Collisions in Richmond:

Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): Even though California has helmet laws, the sheer impact of a collision can cause severe traumatic brain injuries. Helmets can reduce the risk, but they don’t eliminate it. TBI can range from concussions to severe brain damage, which might result in permanent disability or even death.

Spinal Cord Injuries: The force from such a collision can lead to spinal cord injuries, causing temporary or permanent paralysis, depending on the severity.

Fractures and Breaks: Given the vulnerability of motorcyclists, they can suffer from broken limbs, ribs, or other bones upon collision.

Road Rash: This refers to the scrapes and burns motorcyclists often suffer when they slide across the pavement after an accident.

Internal Injuries: The forceful impact can cause internal organs to be bruised, punctured, or damaged. These injuries are particularly treacherous because they might not be immediately evident.

Lacerations and Cuts: Sharp debris, broken glass, and metal can cause deep cuts and wounds which might lead to significant blood loss.

Psychological Trauma: Beyond the physical injuries, survivors often grapple with post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression.

Richmond has been making efforts to enhance road safety through improved infrastructure, public awareness campaigns, and stricter law enforcement. However, the nature of these accidents indicates a need for specialized interventions targeting the interaction between motorcyclists and truck drivers. Awareness and education about blind spots, safe following distances, and the importance of signaling can go a long way in preventing these catastrophic events.

Collisions between motorcycles and trucks in Richmond, California, are a grave concern given the severe injuries they can cause. It’s essential for both motorcyclists and truck drivers to exercise caution and be acutely aware of each other on the road. Furthermore, continuing community engagement and government intervention are crucial to reduce the frequency and severity of these collisions.

“The family of the deceased, as well as anyone else injured in this crash, should contact a qualified Richmond personal injury attorney as soon as possible,” Mr. Singleton added. “This type of disaster will likely require a long investigation, and having a lawyer by your side can make the process easier to manage.”

Catastrophic New Mexico Multi-Vehicle Accidents

New Mexico, known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, has unfortunately witnessed a distressing trend in recent years—catastrophic multi-vehicle accidents. These harrowing incidents not only result in extensive property damage but, more importantly, often lead to severe injuries and tragic loss of life.

The state of New Mexico has experienced a disconcerting surge in multi-vehicle accidents, which involve three or more vehicles colliding on the road. These accidents are often high-speed, chain-reaction collisions that lead to a multitude of injuries and fatalities. The increasing frequency of such incidents has left communities deeply shaken and has raised serious concerns about road safety.

Several factors contribute to the rise in catastrophic multi-vehicle accidents in New Mexico:

  • Speeding: Excessive speed is a common factor in many multi-vehicle accidents. When drivers exceed the speed limit or fail to adjust their speed in adverse weather conditions, they have less time to react to sudden changes on the road.
  • Distracted Driving: The use of smartphones, GPS devices, and other distractions diverts drivers’ attention from the road, making it difficult for them to react quickly to potential hazards.
  • Impaired Driving: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs significantly impairs a driver’s judgment and reaction times, increasing the likelihood of multi-vehicle accidents.
  • Poor Weather Conditions: New Mexico experiences a range of weather conditions, from heavy rain to snow and ice. Drivers who do not adapt to these conditions are at a higher risk of causing or being involved in multi-vehicle accidents.
  • Tailgating: Following too closely behind another vehicle, known as tailgating, reduces reaction time and can lead to chain-reaction collisions when the vehicle ahead suddenly brakes.
  • Inadequate Road Maintenance: Poorly maintained roads and highways, including missing signage or faded road markings, can contribute to accidents, particularly in adverse conditions.

The consequences of catastrophic multi-vehicle accidents are devastating for everyone involved. These accidents often result in:

  • Severe injuries: Many survivors face life-altering injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and fractures.
  • Loss of life: Tragically, some multi-vehicle accidents result in fatalities, leaving families and communities in mourning.
  • Emotional trauma: Witnessing or being involved in such accidents can have lasting psychological effects on survivors and witnesses.
  • Financial burdens: The costs associated with medical bills, property damage, and legal proceedings can be overwhelming for victims and their families.

To combat the rising toll of catastrophic multi-vehicle accidents in New Mexico, several measures need to be considered:

  • Strict Law Enforcement: Increased law enforcement efforts to target speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving can act as a deterrent and help reduce accident rates.

Rising Bus Accident Toll in Fresno

Fresno, California, a city known for its vibrant culture and bustling streets, is grappling with an alarming trend that poses a significant threat to public safety: the rising toll of vehicles colliding with buses on its roadways. The frequency and severity of these accidents have brought to light a pressing issue that demands attention, analysis, and swift action.

Fresno has witnessed a disconcerting increase in accidents where vehicles collide with buses in recent years. These incidents vary in their severity, from minor collisions to catastrophic accidents resulting in injuries and, tragically, even fatalities. The relentless rise in these accidents highlights the urgent need for intervention and proactive measures.

Several factors contribute to the growing number of accidents involving vehicles colliding with buses in Fresno:

  • Distracted Driving: In today’s digital age, distracted driving has become a rampant issue, affecting both private vehicle drivers and bus operators. The use of smartphones, GPS devices, and other distractions diverts attention from the road, increasing the risk of accidents.
  • Congestion: Fresno’s roadways often experience heavy congestion, especially during peak hours. Traffic jams can lead to impatience and frustration among drivers, resulting in reckless behavior that endangers both private vehicles and buses.
  • Driver Fatigue: Bus drivers, in particular, may work long hours, leading to driver fatigue. Fatigued drivers have impaired decision-making abilities and reaction times, making accidents more likely.
  • Inadequate Training: Some bus drivers may not receive sufficient training or updates on traffic rules and safety procedures, contributing to dangerous driving habits.
  • Visibility Issues: Buses have larger blind spots than standard vehicles, making it challenging for bus drivers to see smaller vehicles around them, and vice versa, increasing the likelihood of collisions.

The consequences of accidents involving vehicles colliding with buses are profound and far-reaching. Not only do these accidents lead to injuries and loss of life, but they also incur significant financial costs for victims and society as a whole. Furthermore, these accidents can damage public confidence in the safety of public transportation, discouraging people from using buses as a reliable mode of transit.

To address the escalating toll of vehicles hitting buses in Fresno, several measures need to be considered:

  • Anti-Distracted Driving Initiatives: Strict enforcement of laws against distracted driving, coupled with public awareness campaigns, can discourage drivers from using their phones and other distractions while driving.
  • Improved Driver Training: Ensuring that bus operators receive comprehensive training on road safety, defensive driving, and passenger management is crucial to reducing accidents.
  • Technological Solutions: The implementation of advanced safety technologies, such as collision avoidance systems and blind-spot detection, can help prevent accidents involving buses.
  • Traffic Management: Improving traffic flow and reducing congestion through better city planning and infrastructure development can minimize the risk of accidents.
  • Public Education: Educating the public about safe driving practices around buses, such as maintaining a safe following distance and avoiding bus blind spots, can enhance road safety.

The rising toll of vehicles colliding with buses in Fresno is a pressing issue that calls for immediate attention and action. Winchester Big Rig Collision Kills 2, Injures 3

semi truck depicted driving on highway

There was a traffic collision at the intersection of Domenigoni Parkway and Leon Road in Winchester that led to two fatalities, three injuries and roughly 50 gallons of oil and diesel spilled onto the roadway.

Winchester, California is located in Riverside County near Diamond Valley Lake. Domenigoni Parkway connects the 215 Freeway and the 79 Freeway and has been host to several accidents over the years. That particular intersection, with Leon Road, has several businesses operating out of the area.

Currently, the accident was reported by CalFire which is still investigating the crash. HAZMAT crews are working to mitigate the fuel/oil spill and the eastbound Domenigoni Pkwy will be closed for the next several hours.

According to Patch, the crash was between a big rig and an SUV. It happened at 11:40 am.

“Words cannot begin to express the sadness of this situation,” said Winchester truck accident attorney Gerald Singleton. “Two people have lost their lives, several more are hurt, and this dangerous area saw yet another collision. Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased and those who are recovering from their injuries.”

Winchester Truck Accident Deaths

Recently in Winchester, several accidents have occurred which were fatal or which caused serious accidents. In June, ABC reported that a 17 year old was killed and two others were injured in a car crash on Winchester Road. Patch reported that in June of this year, three people were killed within 5 days of each other in Winchester.

In August, NBC reported that a father was killed in a hit and run crash in Winchester. These accidents continue to occur in and around that area.

Riverside County, located in Southern California, is a region traversed by numerous highways and freeways. As such, it’s a hub for both local and long-distance traffic, including a significant number of big rigs or semi-trucks. While these massive vehicles are essential for the transportation of goods, they are also involved in a disproportionate number of serious accidents in the county. The reasons behind these accidents are multifaceted, and their impact on Riverside’s roads and its residents is significant.

One of the primary causes of big rig accidents in Riverside County is the sheer volume of traffic. With major highways like the I-10, I-15, and SR-60 cutting across the region, there’s an influx of trucks coming from different parts of the state and beyond. With such a heavy flow of vehicles, traffic congestion is a common occurrence, increasing the likelihood of collisions. In tight traffic, the massive size and weight of big rigs make it challenging for them to brake quickly or maneuver efficiently, leading to accidents.

Additionally, the topography and geography of Riverside County, with its mix of urban areas, suburban sprawl, and mountainous terrains, contribute to the complexity of driving conditions. Routes like the I-15 through the Cajalco Valley or the winding paths near the San Jacinto Mountains are particularly challenging for big rig drivers. Navigating these terrains, especially in adverse weather conditions, poses significant risks.

Driver fatigue is another critical factor. While federal regulations impose limits on the number of hours truck drivers can be on the road, the pressure to meet deadlines often pushes them to their limits. Exhaustion can impair judgment, slow reaction times, and in extreme cases, result in drivers falling asleep at the wheel. Given that a big rig can weigh up to 80,000 pounds, the outcome of such negligence can be catastrophic.

Riverside County has also seen a number of incidents due to poorly maintained trucks. Balding tires, malfunctioning brakes, and other mechanical failures can turn a truck into an uncontrollable juggernaut. It’s crucial for trucking companies and independent drivers alike to ensure their vehicles are in top shape before hitting the road.

The aftermath of big rig accidents in Riverside County is often devastating. Due to the size and weight difference between a semi-truck and a typical passenger vehicle, occupants of the latter bear the brunt of the impact. This can result in severe injuries, long-term disabilities, or fatalities. Moreover, such incidents lead to significant traffic disruptions, environmental hazards due to spilled cargo or fuel, and economic losses.

“It’s absolutely necessary for those injured and for those who have lost someone in this Winchester big rig collision to call a qualified attorney as soon as they’ve received medical care,” Mr. Singleton added. “The medical bills will pile up, and it’s likely there are legal avenues in the civil justice system for these people to explore to get the justice and answers they need.”

If you or someone you love has been hurt in a big rig accident in Riverside County, contact the personal injury attorneys at Singleton Schreiber today by calling 866-331-9303 or by emailing info@singletonschreiber.com.

Tesla Crash in Spokane County Used to Fight E.V. Fires

tesla depicted driving on highway

A crashed Tesla was found in Spokane County wrapped in flames with the driver trapped and killed inside near Fairfield in June.

Firefighters from Spokane County Fire District 2 were called to the scene of the crash, they struggled to put out the blaze due to the vehicle being a Tesla. Witnesses describe the fire as being “odd” and appearing to go off like “bottle rockets”. In a report by The Spokesman-Review, Chris Mewhinney residing on the Mewhinney farm near the site of the incident, saw everything firsthand and ultimately heard the explosion of the vehicle.

tesla depicted driving on highway

Chief Eric Olson of Spokane County Fire District 2 reported that their crew did not have the ability to identify the incident as an electrical-vehicle fire. Witnesses and officials further state that the fire was more intense than a typical vehicle fire and difficult to put out. Upon discovering that the vehicle was a Tesla, fire personnel began to worry about the toxins and additional concerns about runoff.

As of June 26, thousands of individual battery cells littered the tree that was split by the Tesla’s impact. Electric vehicles with thousands of individual battery cell modules pose unique threats and risks to both firefighters and the environment. According to the deputy fire chief at the Spokane Fire Department, Rex Shefield, the smoke coming from electric batteries is “really nasty” containing tons of heavy metals and lithium cobalt. Damaged battery parts must be treated as hazardous waste and are difficult to dispose of, posing environmental risks and difficulties.

The cleanup taking place at the Mewhinney farm is being used as a test case for Ecology to streamline procedures related to electric-vehicle crashes that take place on private properties. The Mewhinney’s are working with Ecology, private contractors, and the driver’s insurance company to ensure the area gets cleaned up and the tree removed.

“Damaged lithium-ion batteries found inside Teslas make crashes all the more dangerous for everyone involved when these vehicles go up in flames,” said Brett Schreiber leading Tesla litigation attorney at Singleton Schreiber. “It’s unfortunate that the fire took the life of its driver and ultimately exposed the Mewhinney farm to toxic chemicals and harm. This tragedy will hopefully provide much needed information and procedures related to electric-vehicle crashes.”
