What Typically Causes Car Accidents?

Car accidents are a common occurrence, however, that doesn’t make them less jarring or dangerous. As seen in the recent car accident in Balboa Park, the repercussions of accidents can be devastating. This illustrates the importance of understanding the factors that commonly contribute to car accidents. Common causes include:

  • Distracted driving — Texting or talking on the phone, eating, changing the radio station, or even talking to other passengers can cause drivers to become distracted and cause an accident.
  • Speeding and reckless driving — Speeding decreases the amount of time drivers have to react and increases the risks and dangers associated with accidents and greatly increases the chances of fatalities should an accident occur.
  • Driving under the influence — Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol impairs one’s judgment, coordination, and reaction time, increasing the likelihood of accidents.
  • Poor weather conditions — Inclement weather such as rain or fog, can make roads slippery and decrease visibility, increasing the risk of accidents if drivers don’t take necessary precautions.
  • Poor road conditions — Poorly designed roads, uneven road surfaces, lack of signage, potholes, and more can make roads more difficult for drivers to navigate, increasing the risk of accidents.

Tips for Staying Safe on The Road

Every driver plays a role in keeping the roads safe and preventing accidents. While some factors may be out of driver control, there are several things that drivers can do to reduce the risk of accidents, including:

  • Stay focused and alert
  • Drive the speed limit
  • Drive sober
  • Keep your vehicle maintained
  • Adapt accordingly to weather conditions
  • Stay calm and be patient

While these may seem like insignificant actions, taking these precautions can significantly decrease the chances of being involved in an accident. “As an experienced personal injury attorney I’ve seen the devastating consequences of car accidents first hand,” says lead attorney Gerald Singleton of Singleton Schreiber, “prioritizing these safety measures not only saves lives but also fosters responsible driving for safer roads.”

Seeking Legal Guidance After An Accident

Navigating the legal and financial hurdles after a car accident can be overwhelming and confusing. Securing the help of an experienced attorney is crucial whether you’re a victim seeking compensation for your damages or you’re facing liability.

A skilled car accident attorney, like those of Singleton Schreiber, can help you understand your rights after an accident so that you may seek the maximum possible compensation to cover your damages. Often, insurance companies will offer low settlements that don’t cover the full extent of your damages. An attorney with experience handling car accident claims can help you determine and prove liability and will handle negotiations with insurance companies so that you can rest assured that your rights will be protected.

Seeking out experienced legal guidance gives you the best chance of effectively navigating the aftermath of a car accident and obtaining a fair resolution.
