An SUV driver crashed into the motorcycle of a Coronado police officer, sending him to the hospital.
The motorcycle crash occurred just before 9 am on Sunday, July 2 near the intersection of 6th Street and Alameda Boulevard. The SUV drove out onto the street, hitting the sergeant.
The collision caused the officer to fly over the handlebars, landing on the car’s hood and hitting the windshield before landing on the ground. All of this was according to the Coronado Police Department.
NBC San Diego reported that the sergeant’s motorcycle became embedded into the grill of the SUV. After the collision, the 25 year veteran of the Coronado police department was still conscious and called for help with his police radio.
He was transported to a San Diego hospital, but thankfully had non-life threatening injuries. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is leading the investigation, although it’s in the early stages. However, it does not seem alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
CHP officers reported that the driver and passenger of the SUV stayed at the scene and were cooperative with authorities.
