A devastating collision in Chula Vista resulted in the tragic death of 61-year-old Carlos Galindo on the evening of February 13, 2025. The accident occurred at the intersection of Otay Lakes Road and La Media Road around 7:30 pm.

According to preliminary reports, Galindo was riding his Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on Otay Lakes Road when a Hyundai sedan traveling northbound on La Media Road entered the intersection. As the Hyundai initiated a right turn, it crossed into the motorcycle’s path, resulting in a violent collision. A passerby immediately called 911, and emergency responders arrived at the scene to render aid. Galindo was transported by ambulance to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Dangers of Car vs Motorcycle Collisions

Motorcyclists face a significantly higher risk of severe injury or death in collisions with larger vehicles. Unlike drivers in passenger cars, motorcyclists lack the protective structure of a vehicle, leaving them vulnerable to direct impact. Accidents like the one that claimed Carlos Galindo’s life often result from driver inattention, failure to yield, or misjudgment of a motorcycle’s speed and distance.

“Motorcycle accidents are heartbreaking, especially when they stem from preventable mistakes. Families are left to cope with unimaginable grief and often, financial hardship,” says Gerald Singleton, managing partner of Singleton Schreiber personal injury law firm. “Our firm is dedicated to helping families understand their legal rights and fighting for them to receive the justice and compensation they deserve.”

Legal Recourse Available to the Victim’s Family

Families who have lost a loved one in a motorcycle collision may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. This type of legal action can help alleviate the financial burden associated with such a loss, including:

  • Medical expenses incurred before death
  • Funeral and burial costs

Wrongful death claims are typically filed against the at-fault driver, but other factors may also play a role in the accident. These factors could include:

  • Poor road design
