police arrive to scene of roll over crash

This is the latest in a series of rollover crashes in the city, many of which have proven fatal. Two weeks ago, there was a fatal rollover near Alameda and Pan American that claimed one life. In December, two people were killed in Southeast Albuquerque in a rollover crash. In April of this year, one person was killed and another injured in a rollover crash on I-40 near Albuquerque.

“Drivers and passengers often fail to realize how dangerous it can be in single-car accidents,” said car accident attorney Brian Colón of Singleton Schreiber. “Rollovers can be fatal if a driver is moving at high speeds, if the body of the vehicle is not built properly, or if there are items in the cab of the vehicle that are sharp.”

Albuquerque Car Accident Deaths

Rollover accidents can have devastating consequences for drivers, passengers, and even pedestrians. In Albuquerque, New Mexico, these types of accidents can occur due to various factors such as speeding, reckless driving, inclement weather, and road conditions. When a vehicle rolls over, the occupants are at risk of sustaining severe injuries, leading to long-term physical, emotional, and financial hardships.

One of the most common injuries resulting from rollover accidents is traumatic brain injury (TBI). When a vehicle flips or rolls over, the impact can cause the occupants’ heads to strike the interior of the car, resulting in concussions or more severe brain injuries. TBIs can have life-altering effects, leading to cognitive impairments, memory loss, and changes in behavior. Victims may require extensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing care, imposing a significant burden on them and their families.

Spinal cord injuries are another grave concern in rollover accidents. The force of the impact can damage the spinal cord, potentially causing paralysis or loss of sensation and motor function in various parts of the body. Such injuries may require lifelong medical attention, adaptive equipment, and modifications to the victim’s living environment to cope with the newfound challenges.

Additionally, victims of rollover accidents often suffer from broken bones and fractures. The violent nature of these accidents can cause limbs to be crushed or twisted, leading to multiple fractures. Recovering from broken bones can be painful and may necessitate surgeries, casting, and physical therapy to restore functionality and mobility.

Soft tissue injuries, such as whiplash and contusions, are also common in rollover accidents. The abrupt back-and-forth motion of the body during a rollover can strain muscles, tendons, and ligaments, causing pain and limited range of motion. Though these injuries may not be immediately apparent, they can lead to chronic pain and discomfort, affecting the victim’s quality of life.

Injuries sustained in rollover accidents can have psychological ramifications as well. Survivors may experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression due to the traumatic event they endured. The emotional toll of such accidents can be just as debilitating as the physical injuries, and individuals may require counseling or therapy to cope with their feelings.

The financial implications of rollover accident injuries can be overwhelming. Victims may face mounting medical bills, lost wages due to the inability to work, and ongoing expenses for rehabilitation and long-term care. Seeking compensation through insurance claims or legal action may be necessary to alleviate the financial strain and hold negligent parties accountable.

Rollover accidents in Albuquerque can result in severe injuries with far-reaching consequences for those involved. The physical, emotional, and financial toll can be significant, leaving victims struggling to rebuild their lives. Promoting safe driving practices, raising awareness about the importance of vehicle safety features, and providing support for accident survivors are vital steps in reducing the occurrence and impact of rollover accidents in the future.

“The surviving passenger, as well as the family of the deceased should contact an attorney right away,” added Mr. Colón who is also managing partner of the firm’s New Mexico offices. “They may be due compensation and deserve to have an attorney investigate exactly what happened.”
