Plane Crashes Into Santa Fe House

News just broke of a plane crashing into a house in Santa Fe, New Mexico on July 18.

The crash occurred at 9:02 am, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. A plane was ready to take off from Santa Fe Municipal Airport, but shortly after crashed into a single family home not far from where the airport is located.

When asked, sheriff’s officials said they didn’t believe anyone was home at the time of the crash, but the home did catch fire. Fire crews were working to contain that fire, and officials have closed Interstate 25 frontage road from El Sol Court all the way to Los Pinos due to the crash.

Footage from KOAT shows smoke and flames billowing from the house, and the plane which crashed was a twin engine Cessna. The crash occurred just two minutes into takeoff. 

According to KOB 4, State Police identified the pilot as Randolph Sherman, a 72-year-old man from Los Angeles.

New audio has been released from the plane’s cockpit. KRQE reports that Sherman can be heard reporting to air traffic control that one of his engines failed.

Woman Suffers Severe Burns During Rabbit Fire

A woman suffered severe burns and was taken to a burn center by helicopter during the Rabbit Fire which has so far burned more than 7,900 acres.

The woman was located by firefighters near where the fire began, on Gilman Springs Road. This is according to CalFire spokesperson Rich Cordova.

So far, the fire is 35% contained ABC reports, but the fire crews continue the battle against the blaze during record-setting temperatures.

The Rabbit Fire broke out in the community of Lakeview, which is in Riverside County, close to the Moreno Valley area. The fire is threatening more than 150 structures (houses and buildings) in the area, and the steep terrain where the fire broke out is making the fight slow moving.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the Rabbit Fire, which began on Friday, July 14th. The winter rains added to grass and other brush, creating a wealth of fuel for the fire to spread quickly.

1 Pedestrian Killed in Albuquerque Hit-and-Run Near I-40

A driver hit and killed a pedestrian near I-40 and Louisiana, then fled the scene before officers arrived on July 11. 

A car was reportedly traveling southbound on Louisiana at around 11 PM through the intersection.  A person was crossing Louisiana at the same time disregarding the signal. Officials reported the car hit the person and continued to drive southbound on Louisiana. Officers responded to the scene of the incident and found the person in critical condition and with no signs of life.

Medics arrived at the scene and took the victim to UNHM where the individual was unfortunately pronounced dead.  Albuquerque Police have not yet found the vehicle that hit the person and are unaware if speed or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

A house in Oceanside, California caught fire near Route 76 and led to evacuations of neighboring homes July 13.

On Thursday, shortly after 3 pm, a house caught fire near Route 76 in Oceanside. Several neighboring homes were evacuated according to police.

Several people called 9-1-1 to report smoke they saw at the home on Magdalena Drive just south of Pala Road. This was according to police Sgt. Kelly Garcia.

When authorities arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames. The fire then spread to the fence of a home located on White Pines Way, which is backed up to Magdalena. Police had to evacuate surrounding homes in the area, and Garcia said crews had gotten the house fire under control within about an hour.

This Oceanside house fire came shortly after crews were forced to evacuate homes due to a brush fire in Oceanside. That fire caused road closures in addition to the evacuations. 

There was no news on whether or not anyone was injured by the fire.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Coaster train in the Old Town neighborhood of San Diego on Tuesday, July 11.

The incident occurred at 2:48 AM by a southbound Coaster train at the Old Town Transit Station, reported by the San Diego County’s Sheriff Department. Officials discovered the body of a man about 30 to 40 years of age dead at the scene. The San Diego County Examiner’s Office will conduct a thorough examination to determine the exact cause of death.

French Valley Airport Crash In Murrieta Kills 6

Six people were killed in a plane crash that occurred on approach to French Valley Airport in Murrieta. 

A Cessna C550 business jet left Las Vegas and crashed, bursting into flames around 4:15 am on Saturday, July 8 while on approach to French Valley.

All six people on board were killed. The names of whom are Lindsey Gleiche, 31, of Huntington Beach; Riese Lenders, 25, of Rancho Palos Verdes; Alma Razick, 51, of Temecula; Ibrahem Razick, 46, of Temecula; Abigail Tellez-Vargas, 33, of Murrieta; and Manuel Vargas-Regalado, 32, of Temecula.

There was a service on Sunday at Rolling Hills Covenant Church in Los Angeles County where one of the men’s fathers was an elder. Riese Lenders had a commercial pilot certificate according to Federal Aviation Administration records, and was piloting the Cessna with co-pilot Manuel Vargas-Regalado at the time of the crash.

The victims also had children, ranging in age from newborn to 11 years old.

According to the Press Democrat, the crash occurred during the second of two landing attempts. There were low clouds and poor visibility. The jet, which can seat up to 13 people, crashed roughly 500 feet short of the intended runway. The ensuing fire consumed most of the aircraft.

Michael Morris, the plane’s owner, received a call from Vargas-Regalado who was the manager and lead pilot of his flight company. Morris let Vargas-Regalado use the plane to take people to Vegas and didn’t ask questions because the pilot had flown for him for two years and “was responsible.”

There are planes registered to Morris’ company, Prestige Worldwide Flights LLC, which is based in Temecula. Of the people who died, one was a real estate agent and another was a car dealership owner.
