The Dangers and Causes of Truck Rollovers
Semi-truck rollovers are among the most severe roadway accidents, often leading to serious or life-threatening injuries. Because of the size and weight of commercial trucks, these crashes can also create dangerous situations for other motorists, blocking lanes, spilling cargo, or causing secondary collisions.
Common causes of truck rollovers include:
- Excessive speed while navigating curves or turns
- Cargo that shifts during transport due to improper loading
- Driver fatigue, distraction, or impairment
- Poor road conditions, debris, or hazardous weather
- Sudden maneuvers or overcorrection to avoid obstacles
“Rollover accidents involving semi-trucks can change a person’s life in an instant. Our thoughts are with the driver who was airlifted, and we hope for a swift and full recovery,” says Brian Colón, managing partner of Singleton Schreiber. “Our firm is dedicated to uncovering the truth in these cases, whether the cause is driver error, a negligent trucking company, or unsafe road conditions, so that victims can pursue the justice and compensation they need to recover.”
Legal Options for the Injured Truck Driver
The semi-truck driver injured in this rollover may have legal options depending on the cause of the crash and the circumstances surrounding his work. If he was operating the truck as part of his job, he could be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits to cover medical bills, lost wages, and rehabilitation costs. In addition, if a third party’s negligence played a role, such as another motorist, a cargo loading company, or a vehicle maintenance provider, he may be able to pursue a personal injury claim for further compensation.
Potentially liable parties could include:
- The trucking company, if unsafe scheduling, inadequate training, or poor maintenance contributed to the crash
- Cargo loaders, if shifting or unsecured freight caused the truck to overturn
- Vehicle or parts manufacturers, if a mechanical defect was involved
- Government entities, if dangerous road conditions or poor maintenance played a role
By pursuing these claims, the injured driver could recover compensation for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and other damages related to the incident.
