On Saturday afternoon, October 11, 2025, a shocking scene unfolded when a helicopter participating in a local event crashed into a pedestrian bridge in Huntington Beach, injuring multiple people.
According to officials, the aircraft came down around 2 pm on the pedestrian bridge located in the beach parking lot between Twin Dolphins Drive and Beach Boulevard, just across from several hotels along Pacific Coast Highway. The area was crowded at the time due to the event Cars N’ Copters, a weekend event that draws large crowds.
Video captured by witnesses shows the helicopter descending rapidly before crashing into the bridge and nearby trees in front of the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Two people aboard the helicopter were pulled from the wreckage in unknown condition, and three pedestrians sustained injuries. All five individuals were transported to local hospitals. Their conditions are unknown.
Witnesses described hearing loud “popping” sounds before the aircraft went down. “We heard this loud ‘pop, pop’,” said one beachgoer. “We turned around and just saw the helicopter come crashing down.”
Authorities confirmed that both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified and will investigate the cause of the crash.

What Can Cause Helicopter Crashes?
Helicopter crashes are some of the most devastating types of aviation accidents, and often result in serious injuries or fatalities. Unlike airplanes, helicopters operate at lower altitudes, making them more susceptible to mechanical failure, pilot error, or sudden environmental changes.
Common causes of helicopter crashes can include:
- Mechanical failures: Engine or rotor malfunctions can quickly lead to loss of control.
- Pilot error: Misjudging altitude, speed, or weather conditions can have fatal consequences.
- Maintenance issues: Inadequate inspections or faulty replacement parts can cause catastrophic failures.
- Environmental hazards: Power lines, trees, and sudden gusts of wind can pose serious risks during low-altitude flight.
Because helicopters often fly over populated areas, like the crowded Huntington Beach shoreline, the risk of injuring people on the ground is high. Even a seemingly small mechanical issue can lead to extensive harm and destruction.
“When an aircraft crashes in a populated area, lives in the air and on the ground are put at risk,” says Gerald Singleton, managing partner of Singleton Schreiber. “A comprehensive investigation is essential to uncover what went wrong and to ensure the victims and their families receive the justice they deserve.”
